It is all the cities fault on this plant, Gratis. David and Hal have jumped through hoops to try to retain this company. There exist a power struggle, beween county and city that is very unhealthy. Look at the cities failure to fund the OGDC. Another example is West Elkton, the county wisely helped them prepare for growth and installed a sewer plant. Now no one is paying their assesments...including the former mayor!

The city and the county HAD a perfectly cooperative partnership called the CIC. The county decided to pull a fast one with the OGDC and the city said NO.

It goes like this.

The county decided to scrap the previous CIC relationship with the city because it couldn't fully control it.

The county establishes its completely NEW CIC and enters into a contract with the private corporation Ohio Gateway Development Corp to manage it. Then the county invited the city to be a part of the new, completely county controlled CIC and the city said not only no, but hell no.

Why?

The county had already entered into the illegal contract of funding the OGDC's management agreement with Wesler signing off on the taxpayer funds while ALSO SITTING ON THE BOARD OF THE OGDC.

Then, the OGDC had the audacity to kick multiple city officials AND Jane Marshall out of an organizational meeting with Wesler sitting right there at the table quietly. It was declared that the meeting was a private corporation's board meeting and not open to the public -- except that the meeting was held in public facilities and the only money that the OGDC had received to date was a cash payment of tax dollars that was signed off on by David Wesler acting as County Commissioner while also sitting on the board of the OGDC.

Why would the city want to become embroiled in an illegally funded organization with ethics violations and criminal actions coming out of this group like tapeworms out of a hog's ass?

Quite frankly, although Mr. Cain is presently upset with the city, the City of Eaton has done quite well in the area of economic development - being the epicenter for nearly ALL of the ED activity for the past 7 years.

Meanwhile, the county shoots teenage kids holding blue cups, employs prosecutors & judges who drink with criminals at the 2:30 Club, and carpets marble floors in the courthouse with a remodeling job while under fiscal emergency that freezes the pay of the county employees for a couple years.

Some of us have been keeping track of all of this for a few years now.

The other day a property appraised for taxes at nearly one million dollars sold for 170,000. Taxes were 12,000 a year...probably be $2,000 now! I heard that health ins for a county employee is 14,000 a year. It is time to down size...will stan save us? will chris have his Day? The engineers office is probably the tip of the iceberg

Does David Wesler also get paid while sitting on the board of the OGDC?
Moderators still suck.

Yeah, he's paid by the taxpayers for his job as commissioner.

It's a blatant conflict of interest that has never been challenged.

But is the OGDC writing him a check as well?

Or is he just using his position on the board as a way to dictate what happens with all of our tax money they continue to burn?

He signed the original contract between the county & the OGDC that authorized the funding of the OGDC while also sitting on the board of the OGDC.

Well Eric, if it is wrong, why hasn't he been charged? This has nothing to do with Hal resigning.

Ninja, David Wesler never collected a check for being on OGDC the problem was as Freak said. The audio files and the root of distrust between the City and OGDC leadership can be found at http://www.prebleminutes.com from November 16, 2005: http://www.prebleminutes.com/soundfiles/nov1605.htm

I was at the January 20, 2006 OGDC meeting where Commissioner Marshall, Dave Dailey, Joe Renner, Commissioner candidate Dawn Call and others were told to leave. The only person in that room to take issue with throwing us all out (while we were in there) was Eaton Councilman Dave Kirsh. Rod Good, left the meeting shortly after we were told to leave and talked to us in the hallway.

It is just to bad that the city and county can't work together to keep a growing local business here. " Retention" is the word the OGDC and C's keep talking about, but as we see another business will be gone . Bullens started out in a 2 car garage in the early 70's and look where they are. I talked to Matt a while back and see this new endevor turning into something big. His business has alot to offer with his expansion. Best of luck to him and Eaton Compressor.
